John Burkhardt

Welcome to my website. Herein contains information about my life, my work and some of my friends and family. I maintain a weblog about technology and other life observations.

I view technology is a means to an end. As a computer software engineer I strive to build systems that hide technological challenges as much as possible. Most of all I enjoy building the building blocks themselves and watch what others can do with them. This has come from my early childhood experience with Lego where I was first exposed to the infinite possibilities in the act of creating something from nothing.

I am guided by spirituality in the form of a worship of life and the natural world. This is a personal journey to recognize that I am a part of nature and nature is a part of me. We are all bound together by life energy. I strive to cherish the beauty of all life and know that I am an integral part of it. I marvel in its creation and ability to adapt and survive.

"The indescribable innocence and beneficence of Nature - of sun and wind and rain, of summer, winter - such health, such cheer, they afford forever! and such sympathy have they over with our race, that all Nature would be affected, and the sun's brightness fade, and the winds would sigh humanely, and the clouds rain tears, and the woods shed their leaves and put on mourning in midsummer, if any man should ever for a just cause grieve. Shall I not have intelligence with the earth? Am I not partly leaves and vegetable mold myself?"

Henry David Thoreau
